A city in the UAE on the Persian Gulf, Dubai is constructed on the basis of some principles such as free of charge trade & foreign savings. In order to distinguish it from the emirate it is sometimes referred to as “Dubai City”. The world's fastest growing city, Dubai is located at the crossroads between Europe, Africa and Asia.
After Abu Dhabi, Dubai city is known as the second largest emirate by area and also has the largest population. People have been trading in Middle Eastern markets for hundreds of years. The official language in the city is Arabic but other languages that includes English, German, Hindi/Urdu, Malayalam, Tamil, Persian, Russian and Tagalog are also widely spoken. Islam is the majority religion and while a vast majority of the locals are Sunnis, there is a significant Shiite minority who is free to worship and maintain its own mosques. There are also vast numbers of expatriate Hindus, Sikhs, and Christians. Out of seven emirate Dubai is the only emirate that has has Hindu temples and a Sikh Gurdwara.

Dubai has a fairly large bus system run by the Dubai Municipality. The city hotels also offer a wide range of accommodation to its visitors. Real estate in Dubai is booming. The city has modern skyscrapers such as Emirates Towers, which are the 12th and 24th tallest buildings in the world. The “Burj al-Arab” is currently the tallest hotel in the world.
